C-USA close to adding another Texas school

Texas-San Antonio could be on the move to Conference USA.

UTSA will consider a move to join C-USA in 2013, pending approval from the University of Texas System Board of Regents at Wednesday's meeting in Austin.

The school will discuss "authorization to accept invitation from Conference USA and to negotiate and finalize terms for athletic conference membership, including possible future membership in a new athletic conference," according to the schedule of events on the agenda.

The Roadrunners are scheduled to join the Western Athletic Conference on July 1.

According to the agenda, C-USA officials contacted UTSA in March to discuss the Roadrunners joining C-USA, which is considering some form of alliance with the Mountain West that will include 18 to 24 teams.

The 12 current members of C-USA include: Rice, Houston, UTEP, East Carolina, Marshall, Southern Miss, Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, Central Florida, UAB and Memphis. Houston, SMU, Memphis and UCF will leave for the Big East after next season.

Since UTSA never joined the WAC there will be no exit fee, the agenda said. UTSA must pay a $2 million initiation fee to join C-USA.

CBSSports.com reported that C-USA will also add North Texas and Florida International from the Sun Belt and Louisiana Tech from the WAC.
