Michelin's New Defender Tire Boasts 90,000 Mile Warranty

Defender

?

Low rolling resistance has become the new clarion call from car manufacturers hoping to eke out every last 1/10th of a mile per gallon for EPA ratings, but Michelin's new Defender tire takes a different tack, claiming the highest mileage warranty yet: 90,000 clicks, up to 21,000 more miles than competitors.

?

The tires combine 3D active siping and variable thickness sipes for improved traction and fuel economy, and Michelin claims their new hoops are capable of stopping 31 feet shorter than Goodyear's Assurance ComforTread touring tires. They also claim that using a $3.50/gallon fuel price, the new tires save $250 over their warranted 90,000 mile treadlife compared to Yokohama's Avid TRZ in the 215/60 R16 size.

?

We have yet to verify Michelin's mega mileage claims, and apparently it will take quite a bit of butt-numbing driving to confirm or deny the 90,000 mile longevity estimate. Defender tires are available for 93% of standard vehicle fitments, and are on sale now.
